The Fall Program for Freshmen

You take smaller classes.

Experience the liberal arts.

Berkeley is ready for you to explore.

Think BIG. Start small.

Berkeley is big. FPF is small.

All Berkeley freshmen admitted to the College of Letters & Science for the fall semester are eligible to choose FPF as a unique academic opportunity for their first term. Our small size offers many benefits for a new freshmen at UC Berkeley. For the fall semester only, you take FPF's core classes with the same cohort of students and form a network with advisors, instructors and peers -within all that UC Berkeley has to offer.

Your instructors are with you from lecture to discussion section, and more. Our class sizes range from 14 to 96 seats, and 80% of our classes are under 50 seats. These small classes allow for high-impact learning. Many of these same courses on main campus are taught in 300 to 1,000-person lectures! Your FPF advisors guide you beginning in summer and throughout fall.

If you prefer to be anonymous, you may want something else. For the additional program fee, FPF provides a close-knit community where people know you by name and take an interest in your success.

In fall 2022, FPF plans to hold in-person and remote classes at 1995 University Ave (Golden Bear Center in Berkeley, CA), three blocks west of Berkeley’s main campus. A few classes may also be on main campus.  The closest residence halls are Unit 3 and Blackwell.  Berkeley Summer Sessions and Berkeley Summer Abroad are also in our GBC. Berkeley International Office (BIO) is nearby. The Psychology Department and School of Public Health are neighbors in the Berkeley Way West building.

Students are invited by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to choose a first-year pathway on their MyBerkeleyApp upon admission to the University and the College of Letters and Science. Our program does not accept direct applications, accepts students on a first-come, first-served basis, and comes with an additional program fee.

"I am delighted to have been a part of the FPF Program, and now, an FPF alumni. I appreciate each staff member and instructor that has put their time into making FPF such a lovely experience for new students, such as myself, that were beyond nervous to attend UC Berkeley. Thank you for making Berkeley feel like home so quickly. I would not have traded my experience here for any other!"
